If so, we are currently accepting resumes for Behaviour Interventionist positions to work with families living in the Kelowna, Lake Country, & West Kelowna areas.

This work is highly rewarding and an excellent experience for students pursuing a career in psychology, family studies, special education, counseling, speech & language pathology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, child care, early childhood education, etc. A two-day training workshop will be provided.

Description of duties:

You will be working in the home of a child diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, as part of a multi-disciplinary team. During your sessions when you work one-on-one with the child, you will teach and model age-appropriate play, communication, and social skills. Together with the child, you will play with puzzles, sing songs, build blocks, push cars and trains, and anything else that the child enjoys. You will incorporate specific goals during play and table-work, and track progress on data-sheets at the end of the session. Each session lasts 2-3hrs, and you will be asked to work a minimum of 2 sessions per week.

Qualifications:

• Experience with small children and/or persons with special needs is an asset
• Applicants who are pursuing an education in Psychology, Early Childhood Education, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, or Education are encouraged to apply
• Candidates are required to be patient, self-motivated, extremely reliable, enthusiastic, and possess excellent communication skills
• A car and a valid driver’s license is an asset
• Minimum age for applicants is 19
• Commitment of at least 6 hours per week
• Clear criminal record
